Since October 2008 Miguel Carmona Ruano serves as a Board Member of the European Network of Councils for the Judiciary. He was elected as President of this Network for the period 2011-2012.
With a university degree of Law by the Complutense University of Madrid (1968) and Doctoral studies at the Central University of Barcelona, Mr. Carmona Ruano has been a an Associate lecturer in the Department of Labour Law and Social Security of the University of Seville from 1989 to 1992.
As a member of the judiciary from 1972 he has held various positions, including District Judge, Judge of First Instance, Investigating Judge, Labour Judge and Administrative Judge in the High Court of Justice of Andalusia in Seville.
He served as President of the Provincial Court of Seville from June 1992 to May 2008, and President of its 1st (Criminal) Bench until September 2008, when he was appointed as a Member of the General Council for the Judiciary of Spain (CGPJ), chairing the Committee on International Relations.
Mr. Carmona Ruano was the National correspondent in the Iberian-American Judicial Summit on behalf of the General council for the Judiciary of Spain, who carries out the Permanent Secretariat of this institution.
He is the author of many articles and has been lecturer on juridical subjects as criminal procedure, trial by jury, judicial cooperation in criminal matters and judicial organisation.
